Innocence

Much is written about the carnage of war — the loss of life, the destruction of buildings and cities. This painting focuses instead on the innocent bystanders: the flora and fauna, the delicate landscapes forever changed by the aggression and acts of man.

The burros represent that innocence, standing at a distance as death and destruction unfold before them. Soldiers prepare for battle while the air force clears the way for a ground assault. A fiery explosion tears through the landscape and human occupancy alike, lifting souls to the heavens.
