Gallery Open
Last October, Councilwoman Kara Kelley appointed me to the City of Las Vegas Arts Commission. It has been an honor to represent Ward 2 and advocate for arts and culture in our community.
The first thing I did was inventory the public art in the Ward, and I found very little. I also noticed that the City had no gallery in our area. I wanted to make sure Ward 2 receives its fair share of the City’s “1% for the Arts” budget each year.
I spoke with Cultural Affairs staff and the Director of the Veterans Memorial Community Center about converting some wall space in the Center to gallery use. After many discussions and a review of potential spaces, we settled on a secondary lobby where parents typically wait while their children attend programs and classes.
Tomorrow, the gallery opens with an exhibition of photographs by Nevada photographer Kent LeFevre of LeFevre Fine Arts. I’m thrilled that Ward 2 will now have a rotating fine art collection.
Please stop by and take a look. If you have suggestions for future programming, drop me a line.
